The scholarships listed below are available to international students of various academic levels who want to study in Germany.
German study grants provided by the government
- Scholarships from the DAAD – The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides a number of scholarships for overseas students to study in Germany at different levels. To view the DAAD scholarships database, click the link.
- Erasmus + – The European Commission oversees Erasmus+, the largest supplier of scholarships for study in the EU, which provides money to overseas students to attend school there. It offers funds to help with living expenses for those taking part in exchange programs to study in Europe. Apply here

- Scholarships for overseas students at all levels intending to attend an approved university in Germany are available through the Heinrich Böll Scholarships for International Students.
- Postdoctoral Research Fellowships through the Humboldt Foundation – Postdoctoral fellowships are available to scientists and academics of many disciplines and nationalities. Applicants may include students from developing and emerging nations. Apply here
- Scholarships from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) – International applicants under 30 who have earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a university in their home country are eligible for monthly master’s and PhD scholarships. You must demonstrate that you have performed academically above average, that you have actively participated in volunteer work benefiting society in your native country, and that you are interested in political matters.
- Kurt Hansen Scientific Scholarships: Bayer Foundation-funded science scholarships for students to study abroad in Germany that are available to those preparing to teach science. Check them out here.
- Postdoctoral research fellowships for international students intending to study in Germany are available through the Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowships (IIF) for Developing Countries. - Mawista Scholarship – Financial aid for parents who are also studying abroad, particularly those going to Germany.

Scholarships for studying in Germany at specific universities
- Sub-Saharan Africans can apply for DRD Scholarships. Scholarships awarded on the basis of merit to students from Sub-Saharan Africa’s developing nations who wish to study public administration, development management, or development studies for a master’s degree at Ruhr-University Bochum. - School of Finance and Management at Frankfurt PhD Tuition Waivers – Scholarships with tuition waived for doctoral students at Frankfurt studying in English in the fields of finance, accounting, mathematics, and business administration.
